Something to Think About…Doing it Right….

“What we forget is that following God makes us different- from unbelievers, but also from one another.  God has created each of us uniquely and for a specific purpose; and in that purpose we can dare to accomplish what he asks of us.”

-Judith Couchman Daring to Be Different

As a young mother, and as a homeschooler, I’ve often looked to other mothers to know how to DO IT right.  You know, the right way to diaper, the right way to feed a baby, the right way to dress a toddler, the right way to discipline, the right way to teach my children.

Oh my!  Did I say MY children?  Could it be that teaching their children might be a bit different than teaching MY children?  Of course!  That’s why God gave them to ME to love, nurture, protect, teach and mother.  It took me years to realize that.  I always thought anyone else could be a better mother to my children.  As time has gone by, God has shown me that it’s just not true.  God in his divine wisdom creates the children for the parents and the parents for the children.  Thank you God!

If you’re feeling unsure of yourself.  If you’re feeling like you’re not good enough.  To that I say, Pshaw!  The LORD knew what he was doing when he chose you!  No matter what the circumstances of your child’s birth, or the circumstances you now find yourself in, YOU are chosen to be your child’s momma.  Lean on God, search His WORD and learn of Him.  That’s one reason He sent His Holy Spirit, to be our teacher.  “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.  In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will make straight your path.”

You CAN do this!  Yes, by all means, seek out older mothers, and your own mother for advice and support.

BUT- remember, your best advice and support come directly from the LORD and from the husband He has given you.  If you do not have a husband to love, guide, and protect you, the LORD himself is a husband to the husbandless.  Seek Him!  He’s waiting for you!

I encourage you to seek wisdom in Proverbs and in Psalms.  They are a great place to start.

May the LORD bless your mothering now and for all time.

Thoughts from Proverbs…Anger

Proverbs 15:1

“A  gentle  answer  turns   away  wrath,

but  a harsh  word  stirs  up   anger.”

My son, Michael, 8, chose this verse to type this morning.  When I asked why, he said, “I just need more self-control.”

Don’t we all?  One of the challenges we all face is dealing with anger, our own, and others’.  This verse is about dealing with others’ anger.  I asked Michael to help me think about some things that could help.

Here are some of his suggestions:

1.  Try not to say mean things to other people.

2.  If someone says something mean to you, don’t get mad at them.

3.  You can watch the Bible Man video about anger called “Conquering the Wrath of Rage.”

4.  If something breaks that you like, don’t get mad if it gets broken.

Out of the mouths of babes….

Just something to think about….

God bless!

It’s Never Too Late to Live Happily Ever After

Have you made mistakes?  Have you messed up your life?  Do you feel like it’s just no use trying any more?  Is your life what you want it to be?

Proverbs 13:12 states, “Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a longing fulfilled is a tree of life.”

I’ve made a lot of mistakes.  I’ve messed up my life.  I’ve felt like quitting.  My life is still not what I want it to be.  My heart has been sick from deferred hope.  What about you?

One thing I’m learning through the trials my family is walking through is that God’s ways are higher than my ways; His thoughts are higher than my thoughts.   It is His responsibility to take care of me and my family.  It is my responsibility to trust in Him to bring about His perfect will in my life.  My responsibility continues in that I have to seek His wisdom and choose to align myself with His perfect will.  I have to have faith that He will continue to work in our life.

Proverbs 28:14 says,  “Blessed is the man who always fears the LORD,  but he who hardens his heart falls into trouble.”

I do not want to harden my heart toward God or His will for my life.  I want to be soft hearted so that I can hear the Holy Spirit whispering to my soul.   I have to be willing to give up my way, my ideas of what I want.  I have to submit myself completely to the Father.  Lord may it be done unto me as You have said.

Let’s give up.  Let’s surrender to the Lord and to His perfect will for our lives.  Let’s trust Him to work it all out for our good.  He’s trustworthy.  Jesus paid the ultimate price for our sins so that we can be counted as righteous by the Father.  Let’s have faith that He cares about every part of our life and every need.   Let’s be happy before everything is perfect!

It’s never too late to live happily ever after!

God bless you all!

Trust in the Lord….

Proverbs 11:28

He that trusteth in his riches shall fall:  but the righteous shall flourish as a branch.

Proverbs  16:20

He that handleth a matter wisely shall find good:  and whoso trusteth in the Lord, happy is he.

Proverbs 20:24

Man’s goings are of the Lord; how can a man then understand his own way?

Proverbs 30:5

Every word of God is pure:  he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him.

Our family is walking through a difficult time.  I need these reminders to be faithful and trust in the Lord no matter what my eyes see or my ears hear.  God bless you all; may your trust in God grow.

Proverbs 3:5

Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not on thine own understanding.  In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall make straight thy paths.

ALL not some.   We must include him in everything we say and do.

God bless!
