Sew Crafty Friday

I’m working a a washcloth like this one; but I’m using a varigated blue cotton yarn.

I’ve also spent a fair amount of time working on menu plans.  I hope you’re having a productive week.  I was hoping to get my wicker chair painted.  Perhaps that will be next week’s project.

See what the other ladies are doing over at Shereen’s blog.

My Little Butter Fingers!

My Amy and I made butter today!

I just had to share a few photos.  She was just so cute!  I don’t know when she’s had so much fun!

First, we put the heavy cream that I’d skimmed from real live cow’s milk into the Bosch mixer.  We mixed it until Amy practically squealed that it was butter.  The mixing caused the butter and the buttermilk to separate.  I poured off about a pint of buttermilk through a small strainer into a pint jar.  My Matthew, 17, immediately suggested I make biscuits…maybe tomorrow.  Here’s Little Amy putting the butter into my Grandma Bern’s old mixing bowl.

Next she washed the butter.  She absolutely loved getting her hands into it.

Washing the Butter

Finally, all the buttermilk was rinsed out.

It was time to squeeze out the last of the water.  I drained it and put it in the refrigerator for a bit to firm up.  Then I pulled it out and worked in the salt.  Last of all, I packed it into Tupperware to keep it safe.

It was great fun!

Oh, I added a set of cards to my shop.  I have more items to come including some cute little socks with crocheted lace trim.

Idle hands are the devil’s workshop.  I’ve kept my hands busy making new things for my Etsy shop, Harvest Lane Cottage.  I’ll be listing more over the next few days.  My husband showed me how to load the photos.  Life is so full of learning experiences, isn’t it?  We laugh about me being technologically impaired! ~smile~  I do love creating with my hands, though.  Handmade things just give such a cozy feel to things.

It’s the Ultimate Blog Party! Please Come!

Hi  You’re invited to the Ultimate Blog Party!

Ultimate Blog Party 2008

Hosted by 5 Minutes for Mom

The purpose of the Party is to find wonderful new blogs to visit and to promote your blog as well.  Won’t you join us?

Now, on to the party…I understand that I am to introduce myself to you and tell you a little about blog.  Here goes!

How’d I get my name?

A few years ago we had a hobby farm which we named Harvest Lane Farm.  My husband enjoyed riding his tractor and playing at being a farmer.  The wheat in the back yard whas actually planted by the real farmer down the road. ~smile~  My Farmer Boy planted a nice big garden and a very big to me 2 acre pumpkin patch!  We sold U-Pick blackberries that grew around our property.  We also had a pumpkin patch one year open to the employees at my husband’s day job.  While we were there, I became Laura of Harvest Lane on the internet.  That name just stuck; so, when we moved to town to try to lower our debt, I became Laura of Harvest Lane Cottage.  Now my blog is Laura of Harvest Lane, and my Etsy shop is Harvest Lane Cottage.

What do I do when I’m not blogging?

I homeschool 3 of my 4 children, I am assistant editor and contributing author to the Kingdom Business Journal, I scrapbook, I sew, and I oversee keeping our home.  I say oversee because I don’t do it by myself.  My kids help me a lot.

What do I want to be when I grow up?

I want to be a writer, my man’s wife, and  grandma to lots and lots of children!

Why did I start blogging?

My husband pushed me into it.  I didn’t think I had a thing to write about.  The Lord has inspired me many times when I’ve sat down at the computer.  I’m truly enjoying it now.  I’ve lived through some really tough times; it’s good to share some of what I’ve learned.  I also started so that I would be in practice for writing for the Journal.  See the sidebar if you’d like to see what I’ve written so far.

What do I want to learn this year?

HTML!   More of my Bible.

I live my life day by day, knowing that I can only trust and depend on God, our creator.  No one else and nothing else is dependable and trustworthy like God.  He is my healer, my provider, my comforter, my Father, my never ending hope in trouble.  I am learning to love Him more, lean on Him more and pray for His perfect will in my life.

Well, I think that’s enough partying for now!

God bless you!  Have a wonderful week!
