Keep on the Sunny Side!

My Grandma Mamie was a sunshine spreader!
I moved to this small Missouri town over twenty years ago. I moved from a big city and thought I was moving to Mayberry!

I have a personal friendliness campaign. Small towns are supposed to be friendly, but they will only be friendly if we are!

Smile, open doors, offer to help others, talk to people— cashiers, people in line, receptionists, other shoppers, the librarian, the man who makes your sandwich, the gas station attendant — everyone!

Everyone needs a friendly word, or smile, or even a prayer.

Don’t be afraid to ask someone if you can pray with him or her, then do it right then if possible. It’s a wonderful encouragement, and prayer works

God bless you, have a wonderful week. Remember to share the love of Jesus with others.

Practical Advice from Marmee

“Have regular hours for work and play;
make each day both useful and pleasant,
and prove that you understand the worth of time
by employing it well.
Then youth will be delightful,
old age will bring few regrets,
and life become a beautiful success,
in spite of poverty.”

~Marmee in Little Women

Louisa May Alcott

Oh, will I ever learn? Will this finally be the year when I establish any kind of regular hours? I can make plans, but will I keep to them? Will they go by the wayside like so many resolutions of years past? Paul had troubles doing the good he wanted to do, too. Romans 17:15 states,

For what I am doing, I do not understand. For what I will to do, that I do not practice; but what I hate, that I do.*
That’s how I feel about so many things I try to fix and change in my life. I know that resolutions aren’t enough for me. I’m going to pray and ask God what to do first; while I’m at it, I’m going to ask him to empower me to do it.
What have you found to work for you when you’re trying to make changes?
How do you balance your days to include work and play and all the things life includes?
I’d love to hear from you!
Enjoy the last few days of 2015.

Happy Christmas Time!

Christmas Blessings 2 decorating the tree 2014

Don’t you just love this time of year?

I love taking time to wish Happy Christmas to strangers in the parking lot, in Wal-Mart, at the gas station, just everywhere. This world will only get friendlier if you and I talk to strangers and spread sunshine all over the place. It’s just a way to show the love of Christ to others.

Here’s a bit of what I’ve been writing at Harvest Lane Cottage.

Do take time to read about Christmas Expectations!

Please drop by  and say hello!

Have a wonderful Christmas season!

Blessings,

Laura of Harvest Lane Cottage

Candy Corn… Tradition!

CandyCorn

I bought a bag of some of this yummy ummy fall sweetness this afternoon. I wonder if it will make it until November.  If I open it, I know my family won’t be able to leave it alone. I cannot even remember my first candy corn. I know I must have been small. I do remember trick or treating and getting tiny little plastic bags with four or five pieces in them. One was never enough.  Are you sweet on candy corn?

One Man, One Woman, One God

My Lowell and I have been married twenty-nine years. I wouldn’t trade my man for anyone in the world. It’s been a rough ride at times, but we have taken it together. I’m a blessed woman.

A few words of advice to young ladies who are married or engaged….
  • Promise each other that no matter how angry or frustrated you get with each other, you will NEVER say the D word. (d——) If the two of you never say it, or even think it, you’ll never do it.
  • If you have something to discuss that may cause tempers to flare, go out for dinner or for a Coke to discuss it. We all behave much better in public. ~smile~
  • Read your Bible together. Pray together. Face challenges together. Think we and us, not I and me. My Lowell and I still need to work on this sometimes.

Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and all that He says. He is our salvation for eternity and our salvation in life’s hard times.

Marriage is a lifelong covenant between three people— one man, one woman, and the One True God.
