Something to Think About… Perfect Wishes

Here we are again at the beginning of February. I’ve given up making New Year’s resolutions. I just don’t resolve and follow through like I wish I would. Wouldn’t it be lovely if we could just decide how we want to be and then be it? Golly, I would be more organized, a better cook, a better housekeeper, a better wife, a better mother…I’d memorize chapters and even books of scriptures, I’d even write extensively and perhaps even be published. I’d lose weight, keep it off forever, and feel great. I’d exercise an hour a day and not even mind doing it. My meals would be appetizing, varied and cheap as dirt.
Ah, for a magic wand to make it all happen! The truth is, I can’t make myself change like just like that. Some of these wishes about myself are good things that I can work towards; but, to expect that I’m going to just make a resolution and do it isn’t realistic in my life. I’m like Paul, who in Romans 7 talks about not doing what he wants to do and doing what he does not want to do.

So, what’s a girl to do?

16a “This is what the LORD says: Stand at the crossroads and look; ask for the ancient paths, ask where the good way is,and walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls….”

To me, that means I need to slow down, stop, be still and listen to God. I need to seek His wisdom while it may be found. I believe that I can change many things in my life, with God’s help. There are other things that are just too big for me. For those, I’m asking God to change me. I need to be “transformed by the renewing of my mind”.
Let’s pray for those big changes and make little steps toward them.
Just something to think about….

  1. My Dearest Laura, Something to think about….I think about you sitting at your antique writing desk and writing. Writing books, inspirational messages for the talks you will give, lessons for the courses you will teach, and most important the stories you will write for our grand children. I love you and I know that God will grant you the desire of your heart, writing.Always and Forever, Honey

  2. Sorry about the busted lips. My youngest daughter did that a couple of times before she realized that was what the bat was for – she was a mess. You have been very busy since the last time I visisted you. I have been very busy and just finally had a moment to peek at you. You always bring such joy to my heart in all you have to say. Love and hugs, Ruthanne

  3. Hi Laura, I pray that you will transformed by the renewing of you mind too! I pray that you have a daily time in the Word of God because that is where the renewing of our minds comes from, His word. His way are not our ways. I need to slow down too. Life sure seems busy sometimes. The picture of snow is beautiful. It makes me think of what Jesus does for us, He washes our sins that were like crimson away to be as white as snow. Praise God for giving His son such a wonderful perfect savior! Have a wonderful day. God bless, Jamie
