What kinds of big frugal meals do you make to feed all those hungry kids?

Q.  What kinds of big frugal meals do you make to feed all those hungry kids?

A.  Right now, I’m cooking lots of soups.  Soup is great because you don’t need a lot of meat.  I’m also cooking a lot of beans.  I’m working on my list of frugal foods.  Know this though, from my extremely poverty stricken days.  If you have flour, baking powder, canola oil, and salt, your family won’t starve.  That’s all you need to make basic biscuits.  That was a mainstay for our family for awhile.  Also, oatmeal is a cheap breakfast.  If you don’t make bread now, you need to learn to make some basic bread.  Think  about “making something from nothing”.  I’ll write more about this later.  Here are a couple of web sites that I found helpful in finding new recipes:

  1. I remember those poor days and with 5 kids you had to be thrifty, lots of pasta, beans, rice and homemade breads. I think those days keep us grounded and what a gift to know you can survive.
