my daughter chose this quote from many possible ones to write about for her first freshman essay .ironically, when after ten minutes she called me into her room for help generating thoughts on this topic, i noticed that she held a cellphone in her hand opposite the mighty pen, and was texting to a friend. i tried to slyly address a personal truth for her when i suggested that multitasking is the supposed cohort of cool but the enemy of efficiency; that consistent single-minded focus is usually the best pathway to success. desultory, but true.
