Never Get So Busy Making a Living that You Forget to Make a Life.

This quote came to mind as my husband and I were making a decision about his career a couple of nights ago.  He had been offered what seemed to be a very good position with a local company.  There was excellent growth potential.  There were a couple of catches though.

1.  It was an advertising sales position.  It was straight commission.  For those of you blessed not to know what that means, it means that if you don’t sell, you don’t get paid.  When you’re providing the only income, and there is no base salary, no draw on commissions, and no benefits, and you have a wife and four children, that’s risky.

2.  It was a 45+ hour a week job, building someone else’s business, instead of building his own, and instead of building his family.

Funny, reading this, it’s not such a hard decision; but, it was then.

“Never Get So Busy Making a Living that You Forget to Make a Life.”

He chose to build his business, keep looking for another paying opportunity, and make a life.

This was all decided with much prayer, worship of God the Father, and prayerful advice from a dear friend.

Praise God in Heaven, for it is He who supplies all our needs.

Blessings to you all!!

Something to Think About… The Message of Proverbs 31

I’ll be speaking in our homeschool support group in a couple of weeks about Proverbs 31:20-22.  I thought as part of my preparation that I would read the verses in a few different translations and versions.  This is how The Message interprets these verses.  I thought it was interesting; so, I thought I’d just share it with you all in case you don’t have this version.  This is a direct quote.  You can find all sorts of versions and translations at www.biblegateway.com

Hymn to a Good Wife

10-31 A good woman is hard to find,
and worth far more than diamonds.
Her husband trusts her without reserve,
and never has reason to regret it.
Never spiteful, she treats him generously
   all her life long.
She shops around for the best yarns and cottons,
   and enjoys knitting and sewing.
She’s like a trading ship that sails to faraway places
   and brings back exotic surprises.
She’s up before dawn, preparing breakfast
for her family and organizing her day.
She looks over a field and buys it,
then, with money she’s put aside, plants a garden.
First thing in the morning, she dresses for work,
rolls up her sleeves, eager to get started.
She senses the worth of her work,
is in no hurry to call it quits for the day.
She’s skilled in the crafts of home and hearth,
   diligent in homemaking.
She’s quick to assist anyone in need,
reaches out to help the poor.
She doesn’t worry about her family when it snows;
their winter clothes are all mended and ready to wear.
She makes her own clothing,
and dresses in colorful linens and silks.
Her husband is greatly respected
when he deliberates with the city fathers.
She designs gowns and sells them,
brings the sweaters she knits to the dress shops.
Her clothes are well-made and elegant,
and she always faces tomorrow with a smile.
When she speaks she has something worthwhile to say,
and she always says it kindly.
She keeps an eye on everyone in her household,
and keeps them all busy and productive.
Her children respect and bless her;
her husband joins in with words of praise:
“Many women have done wonderful things,
   but you’ve outclassed them all!”
Charm can mislead and beauty soon fades.
The woman to be admired and praised
is the woman who lives in the Fear-of-God.
Give her everything she deserves!
   Festoon her life with praises!

My friend, Mrs. B.  recently pointed out to me and some other ladies that this is not a real woman.  This is the ideal woman as described by King Lemuel’s mother.  That was a great comfort to me.  This lady seems perfect.  What mother doesn’t want a perfect wife for her son?  Perhaps it’s something to aspire to and work toward rather than a judgement upon those of us (all of us) that are less than perfect.  Know what I mean?
Blessings to you all, I’m up late rather than early!  I guess I’d better get to bed.
God bless and don’t beat yourselves up over Mrs. P31 anymore!

If You Don’t Think God is Near, Guess Who Moved.

My Annie shared this quote with me a couple of days ago.

If you don’t think God is near, guess who moved.

The answer is easy because:

Matthew 28:20
Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen  ~ Jesus

John 14:18
I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.  ~ Jesus

Isaiah 41:10
Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.’

He’s got the whole world in his hands….

If we’ve moved, let’s move back to the Father’s Hands….

Blessings to you!

Something to Think About… Time Management

11.5

I’m reading a delightful book right now called Overjoyed by Patsy Clairmont, Barbara Johnson, Marilyn Meberg, Luci Swindoll, Sheila Walsh, and Thelma Wells.  It’s full of fun encouragement.  Here’s a quote from the chapter A Heart-y Ha, Ha, Ha! by Barbara Johnson.

“But, according to my calculations, reality is this very second.  You see, yesterday is only a memory, and tomorrow is merely a dream.  Today is an illusion.  That leaves one second.  Every day you have 86,400 seconds.  But they come only one at a time.  In your bank account of time, no balance is carried over until the next day.  You use those seconds or lose them.  There is no chance to reinvest.

Make your investment wisely by believing you deserve to be full of joy this very second.  And you can be.  Decide to be.”

I’m going to meditate on this thought today this second.

God bless you, dear reader!

Thank God for What You Have. Trust God for What You Need.

Contentment.  I’ve been trying, really I’ve been trying.  I’ve been trying to trust, trying to believe, trying to have faith, trying to be content until God changes our circumstances.   We have been having financial troubles because my husband has been without an income for awhile.  Well, Bless God!  This week, my husband found employment.  Thank you Jesus!  We are just about to the bottom of our resource barrel.  This is perfect timing.

Perfect timing. Doesn’t it seem appropriate that the creator of time would have perfect timing?

Black, White and Red Wall Clock

We were concerned with how we were going to pay the rent in March.  Guess what!  We received a miracle check in the mail today that will cover the rent and some gasoline, too.  Praise God!  He’s awesome, amazing, splendidly wonderful.  That check was completely unexpected.  I’ll bet he delighted in planning this little surprise for us.

Humbled by His Loving Generosity,

We are So Blessed!

Do you think about that often?  We are so blessed?  We are, you know.  We all are.   Most of us have warm homes; most of us have adequate clothing; most of us eat two or three times a day or more; most of us have at least one or two friends we can call or hang out with; most of us have families that love us; most of us feel safe in our homes; most of us have enough money to buy a gallon of milk or a loaf of bread.

For those of us that have given our lives to Jesus Christ, God will provide all our needs according to His riches in glory.  We need to trust Him to provide for those needs.

Several years ago, my cupboards and my pocketbook were nearly bare, for a long long time.  A dear Christian lady suggested I sing prayers to God over my cupboards.  I thought that was strange; but, I decided to try it.  As I sang, food magically appeared in my cupboard….no just kidding! ~smile~ What happened is that the anxiety I was feeling over feeding my family lifted.  God did supply our need.  He always has.  The difference was in me.

So often, I find that whatever the trial I’m facing, the real battle is within me.  Will I trust God?  Will I wallow in my fears?  I’ve done both many times.  After years of trials, I’m finding that I’m quicker now to trust God.  Once you’ve seen for yourself what God can do, it builds that trust.

Well, I’m rambling a bit.

Think today about the blessings you have today as you smile at a child, your husband or wife, as you gaze at the beauty around you, or as you simply drink tea or coffee out of a favorite mug.  All these things were given to us for our enjoyment.

The word says that all good gifts come from God.  Enjoy my friend!

We are So Blessed!

A Quote from Laura Ingalls Wilder

 ”It is still best to be honest and truthful;
  to make the most of what we have;
to be happy with simple pleasures
and to be cheerful and have courage
  when things go wrong.”

Trusting God for Our Needs in Hard Times

“I have never thought it necessary to save for the future or look out for myself or my family except that we trust God.  So, when we see someone in need, an old woman, a sick person, or a helpless infant– I freely give whatever I have at the time.  I know that later, when I am in need, God will provide for me.  I don’t need to look out for myself in any way other than to trust in Him.”

~George Mueller

1805-1898

Oh for that kind of faith…

a faith that is willing to give it all away for Jesus’ sake knowing that He will provide all of our needs according to His riches in glory,

a faith that trusts Him explicitly without”fretting or worrying,

a faith that does not doubt His love or His provision or His timing,

a faith that is strong even when we don’t see answers to our prayers.

Faith is hoping and believing and trusting all wrapped up together.  It is a gift from God.  The Word says that”…faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”  Romans 10:17  This tells me that I need to not only read scripture, but read it aloud and listen to it being read aloud.  I want to hear from God from His word.

I want that Faith that is a gift from God.

How about you?

God bless!
